A little touch of Americana

Although I live in Central Illinois, I never get tired of capturing the quaint and lovely spirit of the heartland. Here are a few pictures I snapped on a drive through the heart of Illinois recently.

For full disclosure, these pictures were taken with a Google Pixel. I love the camera on this phone! Very often, I'm able to use it instead of toting my DSLR on sightseeing expeditions like this one.

I love this shot because I love this place.

Texture

I have always been drawn to texture. This one was taken when I was first learning on my DSLR. I still love the patterns made by the bricks, the converging mortar lines, the rich textures in and out of focus...

In this shot, I experimented with over-the-top color. Sometimes it makes me squint because I tend to shy away from supersaturated color, but it was meant to evoke an emotion. In the end, I like the contrast between the simple subject matter and the hyper coloration. It invites me in, but loudly.
